
History
The Liberian Council of Churches (LCC) was founded in 1982 and incorporated during
the latter part of that year. It was establish to serve as a fellowship of all bodies of
organized Christians within the Republic of Liberia.
The LCC was established by six Churches: Catholic, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Baptist,
United Methodist and Lutheran. The Heads of these denomiations had seen the need to
work together as a united body to address issues relating to the Church and Society.
Mission:
- To strengthen the evangelistic outreach of the Churches
- To affirm our unity in Christ while respecting our differences, and to actively
promote the desire of unity among Christians in Liberia
- To strengthen one another by sharing our diversity of gifts
- To share information for the smooth running of the Churches
- To plan together so that our Christian witness and services to humanity can be
coordinated effectively
- To coordinate our resources for efficient joint action when necessary and possible
Objectives:
- To promote peace-building and reconciliation
- To advocate for human rights, justice, equality, and security
- Campaign against gender based violence and seek for the protection of women,
girls and boys
- To build the capacities of member Churches/Organizations
- Advocate for the promotion of good governance
- Support Youth and women programs
- Promote the desire for unity among Christians
- Promote ethnic and religious tolerance
